The Extrapolator

The base of this lamp is a US military surplus device of unknown purpose, made of cast and machined high-grade stainless steel, suitable for corrosive environments.  The center of the base is a precision bearing designed for heavy loads.  The pivoting motion of this base is used to turn the lamp off and on, with a 30-degree travel.  Connected to the base through a flexible gooseneck is a small explosion-proof junction box fitted with a gate valve and dimmer.  The lamp head is comprised of a high-purity air filter for an industrial compressor.  It is cast aluminum, with a Plexiglas cylinder in the center in which two medium-base sockets hold a pair of long incandescent light bulbs.  The finish is black and sea green hammerite.  This heavy-duty desk lamp is excellent for reading or mood lighting.
